If you’ve never been on a luxury crewed yacht before, you’re in for a real treat. The sense of adventure combined with the wonderful privacy, as well as the chance to see some of the world’s most beautiful destinations, makes a luxury yacht holiday an unforgettable experience.
In order to ensure you take full advantage of having a luxury yacht at your disposal, you’ll need to make sure you pack the appropriate items. Of course, you’ll need stylish beachwear, some swimwear for those dips into the Mediterranean, and plenty of sun protection – but what else should you be packing in preparation for your yacht adventure? Check out this list of essential items which you’ll need to bring with you to enjoy your fabulous yachting experience to the fullest.
Deck shoes
First up, you’ll need to ensure you have the appropriate shoes for boarding your yacht. These should be closed, non-slip deck shoes or sports shoes – if you don’t own a pair of these, any rubber-soled shoes should be fine. This will ensure they don’t mark the deck of the yacht while you’re walking around, barefoot is also fine.
Soft luggage
Hard-shell luggage is great for flying because it ensures that your possessions will remain safe and secure. Unfortunately, they’re much harder to store on a yacht, where storage space is plentiful but of the wrong shape to store hard cases. Try to bring soft luggage if you can – large duffel bags or soft bags which have wheels are a great alternative. They’ll be easier to store in the lockers onboard.
Wind protection
It can get windy when you’re out on the open ocean. Despite the wonderful temperatures in the Med and around the Adriatic, you can still feel the chill of the breeze at times. Remember to pack some form of wind protection – it could be a light jacket, a few scarves, a cardigan or a pashmina. The last thing you want is to have to miss a spectacular sunset because it’s too windy or cold up on deck!
Sunglasses
You’ll need some high-quality sunglasses for your time on the yacht. There is always shade to be found on your yacht when you’re out on the open ocean, but you will want to take advantage of the sun and the water reflects the sunlight too. You don’t want to spend your entire trip squinting! Ensure the sunglasses have the appropriate UV protection, and you might want to attach them to a lanyard to prevent them from ending up in the sea.
Eco-friendly toiletries
While it’s not a prerequisite, many people heading off on a yacht charter like to play their part in protecting marine life. By purchasing natural, eco-friendly toiletries for the trip, you can help to ensure you’re not dumping parabens and other potentially harmful substances into the sea as you sail.
What not to bring…
Of course, there are also plenty of items you should leave at home, including:
- Hairdryers – usually provided and of course the sea breeze will do the job for you!
- Heeled shoes – a total no-no on a boat.
- Too many outfit changes – you’ll spend much of your day in comfortable activewear or swimming gear, so there’s no need for complicated outfit planning.
