Standing sentinel over the entrance to the outer bay of Kotor the town of Herceg Novi with its many fortifications speaks silently of more troubled times. Literally translated as “New Duke (or Prince)” likely named after Duke Sandalj Hranić of the late 14th Century took control. The town and province have been occupied by many nations over the centuries leaving a legacy of diverse architecture.
Numerous spas and the healing mud bath are popular amongst visitors as are the many historic fortifications, churches and houses.
