Lefkada (Lefkas) separated from the Greek mainland by a mere 9 metres at the northern tip, the separating canal excavated in the 7th century flows between salt marshes on either side, giving an eerie feeling when sailing through.

A short distance to the east of Lefkas sits the legendary Skorpios, the private island of Aristotle Onassis, now owned by Ekaterina the daughter of Russian billionaire oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev.

Meganisi to the east of Levkas island has a frequently indented coastline offering the most attractive of bays in which to anchor. Spartachori village high on the hill allows a tremendous panorama over the bay and yachts below.

On the west coast of the mainland is Parga well worth a visit for its steep streets, sandy beaches and the waterfront, bars, cafes and shops, watched over by the magnificent Venetian castle.
A trip to the Acheron River often referred to as the River Styx, can make for an interesting diversion.

Kithira and nearby Elafonisos are the furthest south of the Ionian Islands, part of the alternative route to the Saronic Gulf if avoiding the Corinth Canal. Elafonisos is where the ancient city of Pavlopetri can be seen beneath the clear blue water.
