The volcanic island of Santorini surrounds the caldera, with Thirasia marking the western edge. The harbour is really just a narrow ledge surrounded by cliffs, 600 steps lead to the outstanding Chora above and can be travelled by donkey, the harbour presents a spectacular anchorage or a yacht may moor against the still growing lava island of Nea Kameni. Believed by some to be the home to the mythological lost city of Atlantis.
