Enjoyed by Athenians as a weekend retreat Aegina has an air of superiority, a faded glory and a multi cultured feel all rolled into one. Steeped in history Aegina has been the capital of Greece, housed the national mint, been a great naval power rivalling Athens and home to Greek Gods and Goddesses. Horse drawn carriages provide a relaxed alternative transport along the harbour front and main roads whilst the pedestrianised streets back from the harbour allow a completely relaxed browsing experience. The visitors to Aegina are more the discerning traveller rather than tourist and this shows in the quality calibre of the bars, restaurants and tavernas in and around the town.
